Cadillac Ciel Concept breaks cover at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

Yesterday we announced you that GM is preparing to unveil a new Cadillac concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance… well here it is… this is the Cadillac Ciel (pronounced “C-L” – the French translation for sky). The new Cadillac Ciel is a four-seat convertible that promises to open a new chapter in Cadillac’s design and product ascent, and in the same time it looks like a stylish old car. The vehicle is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter Direct Injection V6 engine paired with a hybrid system using lithium-ion battery technology. The total output delivered by the system is 425 hp and a maximum torque of 583 Nm (430 lb-ft).

Regarding the design, we must admit that it is quite impressive, but the most impressive are the rear doors hinged at the rear as well as the absence of the B-pillar. The exterior design is underlined by the sweeping nickel-plated trim. The interior is even more impressive, but remember… this is just a concept. Some of the interior features include the sloping bolsters on the seats that will allow passengers to slide more comfortable into the seats, personal device storage area on the front of the console, power-assisted transmission shifter that deploys when then engine is started, lightning in the armrest, door storage areas inspired by premium fashion accessories that open with high-quality zippers, pull-out blankets available to all three passengers that retract automatically and heating and cooling features. What is more interesting is that all the seats feature a drawer containing sun lotion, sun glasses and towels, as well as aromatherapy that is controlled from the rear armrest.

“Large, expressive luxury is innate to Cadillac and the Ciel recalls that heritage, while suggesting where the brand can go in the future,” said Clay Dean, global design director for Cadillac. “Authentic luxury is driven by experiences, not just products, and Ciel is about the experience of the journey.”[via : 4wheelsnews]
