2012 Audi A6 gets five stars rating at the Euro NCAP crash test

Safety organization Euro NCAP named the Audi A6 as one of the nine vehicles in its latest tested batch to receive the maximum five-star rating. After testing the model with a 2.0 diesel, Euro NCAP gave it a score of 41 points for child occupant protection, achieving maximum points for the tests on both the 18 month old child and 3 year old child. In its class, the new Audi A6 is one of the safest cars according to the results to the tests on adult occupant protection in a frontal or side collision and child safety and pedestrian protection.

The top rating of five stars was given to the A6 for driver and passenger protection in frontal and side impact collisions. When it comes to active safety, the Audi A6 features an integral pedestrian protection system with standard daytime running lights and optional night vision assistant with a pedestrian warning.

For added driver assistance systems, Audi offers the active lane assist or the all-weather light with adaptive headlight range control. Audi said that its pre sense system is a “milestone in active safety,” saying that in instances where there may be a collision, this system initiates partial braking. However, if a collision can’t be avoided, the partial braking is followed by a full deceleration that lessens the intensity of the impact. Target braking helps drivers when they fail to apply enough braking force even after getting visual and acoustic warnings.[via : 4wheelsnews]
