Ford Mustang is falling farther behind the Chevrolet Camaro in terms of sales

It appears that Chevrolet Camaro is becoming the top-selling sports car in the United States and that the Ford Mustang is falling farther behind. Although Ford had different plans and wanted to see the Mustang crushing the Camaro, the American manufacturer lost the crown in 2010 after a 24-year run. Moreover, the gap between the two sports cars widened this year, as the Camaro outsold the Mustang by 33 percent in May.

"The Mustang on its current sales pace isn't enough to sustain Flat Rock," said Jeff Schuster, an automotive analyst with researcher J.D. Power & Associates, acccording to Autonews. "The Camaro has a more modern feel and seems to draw more attention from a younger age group."

Ford is currently planning to increase production of V6 engines for the Mustang, while its designers are working hard on a new version, which will make its debut in 2014. John Fitzpatrick, the Camaro's marketing manager said in an interview that Ford has a huge, loyal base with the Mustang and that Chevrolet is starting to chip away that. Still, Ford says that the Mustang sales suffered due to a short supply of a new V6 engine, which is the most popular choice. For those who don’t know, the V6 engine delivers 305 hp and has a fuel consumption of supply of a new V6 engine. [via - 4wheelsnews]
