Because of the risk of fuel leak or electrical issues, Ford Motor Co. is recalling eight vehicle models that total to over 34,000 vehicles from all around the world. Ford is recalling 25,000 Ford Ranger trucks, 23,688 units of which are in the U.S. In a notice posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Web site, Ford said that a fuel leak may result when the protective layer of an engine fuel line near the throttle body shield isn’t installed properly.
Ford said that it has not received reports that this defect has led to fires. The model year 2010 trucks covered in the recall were produced from October 2009 through May 2010 at Ford’s Twin Cities Assembly Plant. Ford also said it is recalling 9,100 vehicles worldwide because their electrical systems may short and result in a vehicle fire.
A total of 8,022 vehicles in the U.S. are affected by this recall, including seven models: the Ford Edge crossover, the Lincoln MKX crossover and the F-series line of pick-up trucks: the F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550. Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood said that no injuries have been reported for the recalls related to the fuel leak or electrical issues.
